Use AI as a study and research assistant while keeping your own understanding and judgement central. Practise asking better questions, reading original sources, organising evidence and testing what you have learned. Activities use accessible material and realistic study tasks.
What you will learn
- Turn a broad topic into a focused question and a practical research plan.
- Compare sources, check citations and separate evidence from interpretation.
- Create accurate summaries, revision notes and practice questions from supplied material.
- Document AI assistance and follow the academic rules of your institution.
Planned course syllabus
- Study goals and research questions: Set a clear question, scope, prior knowledge and a plan for finding answers.
- Finding and judging sources: Use effective searches and assess author, date, methods, relevance and primary-source evidence.
- Reading and summarising: Ask for explanations grounded in supplied text, then check important details against the original.
- Evidence notes and comparison: Build a source matrix, compare claims and record disagreement, missing evidence and limitations.
- Citation and reference checks: Verify that cited works exist and support the claim; use consistent references and never invent sources.
- Active recall and revision: Create flashcards, practice questions, spaced-review plans and explanations in your own words.
- Responsible academic AI use: Understand plagiarism, attribution, privacy and institutional rules; use AI support without misrepresenting authorship or learning.
- Final research and study portfolio: Present a small evidence-based review, a checked source log and a revision toolkit.
Practical assignments
Narrow a research question, compare three sources, audit an AI-generated summary and verify a set of suggested citations. Create a short revision plan and test yourself without AI assistance.
Final project
A mini research brief using five real sources, with an evidence matrix, verified references, a source-check log, an AI-use statement and ten self-test questions. Include a short explanation of remaining uncertainty.
